Conserving the Future
The Jekyll Island Foundation exists for the sole purpose of supporting the
conservation and stewardship of Jekyll Island.
The Foundation works with the Jekyll Island Authority to identify and fund
projects that will enhance the protection of and the public interaction with
the island. Projects can be classified into four major categories. These categories
naturally overlap and link to support the long-term strategies for the island.
The categories are:
Planning – The essential activities that provide direction and detail.
Conservation – Encompasses natural and environmental activities and
functions.
Preservation – Encompasses the care and interpretation of cultural assets.
Education – A broad category that addresses public outreach.
Conservation encompasses natural and environmental activities and functions.
Project Examples:
- Arboreal surveys
- Natural area access and interpretation
- Wildlife management strategies (Loggerhead
Turtle project)
- Landscape restorations
