The highly anticipated Georgia Sea Turtle Center is the first-of-its-kind in the state and is housed in the 1903 Power Plant building within the Jekyll Island National Historic Landmark District. The building dates to the Winter Resort Era of the early 1900s, when it housed the generator for the Jekyll Island Club, now a stately, turreted four-star resort hotel that was once was the exclusive retreat of America’s most powerful and prolific families, including the Vanderbilts, Rockefellers, and Pulitzers.
The Center, a state-of-the-art rehabilitation center and interactive learning museum will focus on the care and rehabilitation of sea turtles including educating the human population about this interesting species.
