JEKYLL ISLAND EXPERIENCE AWAITS

Help Us Fund This Capital Project to Renovate & Reinvent Jekyll Island Museum.

We hope you are as excited about the Mosaic project as we are!

The Jekyll Island Foundation’s current focus to transform the static, one-dimensional Jekyll Island Museum into a premier public space, education center and cultural institution, is known as the Jekyll Island MOSAiC: The Island. The People. The Legacy.

Housed in a National Historic Landmark District structure built in 1897 as the Jekyll Island Club Stables, the current Museum has not seen a substantial update since opening in 1984. The MOSAiC campaign will restore the historic Club Stables into an experiential learning facility, a primary source of Jekyll Island information, and a center of Island activity.

In addition to fascinating interactive exhibits on the culture and ecology of Jekyll Island, the MOSAiC will include public space for community events and educational presentations.

When complete, the MOSAiC will provide an extension of the classroom for students of all ages, inspiring visitors to become ambassadors for the Island and protectors of its past, present and future.

Jekyll Island is truly an island like no other. The qualities that appealed to the titans of the gilded age are now available to every visitor: miles of serene beaches, majestic maritime forests, salt marshes, freshwater wetlands, and tranquility that is found only in undisturbed nature. If you share our passion for safeguarding and promoting the beauty and history of this island, join us to help ensure present and future generations enjoy this unique and wonderful place.

JEKYLL ISLAND MUSEUM… TODAY

  • Has not seen a significant exhibit update since moving to present location in 1984
  • Occupies part of an 1897 building in the Historic District that initially served—and still actively operates—as a horse stable
  • Lacks air conditioning and central heat for guests and staff
  • Lacks crucial climate-controlled environments for – and appropriate space to rotate through – a cache of more than 20,000 artifacts on display and in storage
  • Current displays are static, stale, in disrepair and not representative of the Island’s complete cultural and ecological past, present and potential
