For 31 years, Gil was a member of the Brunswick, Georgia law firm of Fendig, McLemore, Taylor, Whitworth & Durham, P.C., practicing primarily in the areas of estate planning, real estate and corporate law. For the past 17 years, a solo practitioner in Brunswick, Georgia.
Gil has an undergraduate degree in political science from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (1965), and law degree from The University of Georgia School of Law (1970). He served as a commissioned officer in the United States Naval Reserve and attained the rank of Lieutenant, was past president (1974-1975) of the Brunswick-Glynn County Bar Association, past committee chairman in Younger Lawyers Section of the State Bar of Georgia, and past president of the Brunswick- Golden Isles Estate Planning Council.
Gil’s community activities include Emeritus Trustee of the Coastal Georgia Community College (now College of Coastal Georgia) Foundation; Past Board Member of Friends of Historic Jekyll Island; past Trustee and Chairman of the Administrative Board, Jekyll Island United Methodist Church; Past President, Rotary Club of Jekyll Island; Past Rotary District Governor's Group Representative (position now called Lieutenant Governor@); Past Trustee and Honorary Trustee of The Coastal Georgia Historical Society Endowment Trust; Past Board Member of The Glynn County Chapter of The American Red Cross; Past PTA President of Frederica Academy; and Past Board Member of The Humane Society of Southeast Georgia.
Gil and Susan McLemore have been residents of Jekyll Island since July 1, 1970. Their oldest child, Kim, attended the University of Georgia, and resides in Atlanta with her husband, Brian. Gil III attended The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is now residing in Atlanta with his wife, Amie. Their youngest child, Rhyn, is a graduate of the acting/musical theatre program at Carnegie Mellon University and now resides in Manhattan.
